Other bad groups you may like include Green Day, Linkin Park, and Billy Corgan's current mutilated configurations of the Smashing Pumpkins.

Night Visions was a good album

Everything since has gotten progressively worse

Nope, they only play a handful of 90s songs, more than half of them being Alice In Chains.

Give it another ten years.

Counting Crows is dad rock. Nickelback is dad rock. Any dads who listened to Imagine Dragons as kids or teens probably don't have kids who are old enough for them to posture about their favorite music, and I don't think the zeitgeist that birthed them has changed that radically either.

Kid Rock, Three Doors Down too, and Five Finger Death Punch too. It's not just them being older than people think - because there are countless bands from the time frame that would never be considered classic rock - it's just that the style of music is still sort of in line with a lot of older tastes from the boomer demo.

Honestly it would line up perfectly. Say a kid right who is aged 10 was born in 2011. If each generation was born 20 years before then their great grandfather would have been born in 1951. They would have been 13 when The Beatles became a cultural sensation in 1964.

I'd say dad rock right now is prime late 90s to mid 00s mainstream rock that. So lots of nu-metal, post-grunge, emo-pop, pop punk, garage rock revival, post-punk revival, and indie rock that was played on major radio stations during that time.

Green Day
Linkin Park
White Stripes
The Strokes
Jet
Three Days Grace
Nickelback
Three Doors Down
Creed
My Chemical Romance
Blink 182
Franz Ferdinand
Muse
Arctic Monkeys
Jimmy Eat World
Arcade Fire
Death Cab For Cutie
Modest Mouse
System of a Down
