Someone probably has a stick up their butt about it being a Stephen King work.

The Oscars has been about pretentious shit, and whatever Roman Polanski made recently, for decades now. The only real exceptions are when hobbits or capeshit or something makes too much damn money for the academy to ignore.

Saving Private Ryan losing to Shakespeare in Love was pretty bad.

Like Shawshank and Pulp Fiction are both better movies than Forest Gump, but at least there was some level of cultural following to Forest Gump. It is still looked fondly upon by most and still gets regularly referenced, even today.

When was the last time you even remembered that Shakespeare in Love was a thing? And it beat what is considered one of the most influential war movies of all time.

You guys should watch a documentary about Weinstein's Miramax. Literally sat down and made a mathematical rubric on what kind of film is most likely to win an Oscar, ultimately producing Shakespeare in Love, which is generally considered to be a mediocre film but won seven Oscars. Because the Academy is utterly predictable and creationally bankrupt.

This is why LEGO movie didn't even get a nomination for best animated film - because 90% of the academy hadn't even watched any of the animated films nominated.

Its a good movie, not great but you should take solace in knowing that since it wasnt nominated that it does not have the stench of being affiliated with the Weinstein's like many movies from that time.

Singin' in the Rain should have won Best Picture, but it wasn't even nominated.

Nah. Shawshank is very overrated. Good movie, but it's not anywhere Oscar worthy. Maybe Freeman's performance, but no.

Awards shows are either artsy stuff or predictable films you know will win. That's why they keep losing ratings now. Add in pandering and no one will want to watch it.
