I was never a Sony fan so I didn't hold onto mine, but I want to go back and get one again. But we're at the point now where some PS3s are gonna be 15 years old. I've had my 360 for about the same length of time with no issues, knock on wood. How's the failure rate on PS3s? Should I try to get a totally refurbished one from a really reputable place? Or are they reliable enough that I could just go with the cheaper option of a random eBay seller?

I think they discontinued the PS store for PS3, so you may want to take that into consideration before buying one. Ive got a ton of good stuff on mine, but its broken. I might try to repair it some day.

They confirmed that the shop will not get shut down in the summer.

Ive had a Super Slim since 2014 and havent had any problems with it. Bought my brother a used Slim in 2016 or so and its still chugging along. Youll probably be fine generally, they never failed as much as 360s. I wouldnt go out of your way for a Fat one though.

The fat ones are the backwards compatible ones right? Cuz yeah I don't need that.

I got the regular PS3 (not the fat or the slim) and it's still working pretty good.
