Both have a billion layers to their plot. Nier (and Drakengard by extension) is just edgier about it. I swear these two series are just two sides of the same coin. Nomura went with naive optimism while Taro went with oppressive nihilism for his story. These two series have a lot more in common than you'd think. Think about it.
