Board 8 > Shot in the dark here, anyone help me figure out a song/artist?

So at work this one song plays, I assume it's not too old, but the singer sounds an awful lot like Amy Lee from Evanescence, and I swear the end of the chorus goes "instead of me." It's got a rock opera sound to it, but not heavier like Evanescence. I wish I could understand the lyrics better but I work in a factory so it's very hard to distinguish what she's saying.

I assume it was a semi-popular song since it's something airing on a sort of loop with other famous songs.

Edit: And the "instead of me" sounds kinda drawn out. like "insteeeeeeead ooooooooooof meeeeeeeeee"

How certain are you on those being the lyrics?

With rock opera my first thought is Nightwish or something similar to them like Epica.

With the Evanescence vibe there's We are the Fallen but they are kinda harder so that's not a great fit.

But then it must have been a band that saw some top 40 play at some point right? Or it wouldn't be playing in a factory? Like this is just audio being played by the factory right? Like something you'd hear walking around in Wal-Mart sort of?

For vocalists who are definitely popular enough that might resemble Amy Lee there's Lacey Sturm, original vocalist for Flyleaf or Lzzy Hale of Halestorm?

I really enjoy that Rock Opera sound (Kamelot's album Epica is among my most played), but I'm sorry to say I can't think of anything fitting those 3 words, but I hope my musings help in some way.

What kind of phone do you have? Singing/humming it into Google "what song is this" works super well for me.

Is it something set up by the factory, or a radio station? Some stations let you look at their playlist online to see what was playing at a certain time.

As a total stab in the dark for "sounds a bit like Evanescence and has a chrous that ends with a drawn out 'meeee'", Somebody Help Me by Full Blown Rose. It won't be it, because it was the theme tune of an obscure TV show rather than a hit, but if it's a privately made playlist rather than a radio station, maybe your boss is a fan of Tru Calling.
