They really do water them down... A lot. You can't even kill civilians without being desyncronized... As a viking. I didn't expect them to be true to life for obvious reasons, but still.

Yea it was a dumb move

They wanted to make them be the Assassins/good guys, and they really should have made you be the bad guy again like in Rogue and have the vikings be an arm of the hidden ones, since this game is so close in Era to the first game.

tbf, maybe Eivor(?) wasn't the type to kill innocents, and even though other vikings might, s/he was against it, and doing so desynchronizes you
