Started marathoning the mainline DQ games a few years back, and it went smoothly until this game. I'm currently at the dungeon near Bloomingdale (so, about to get the boat), and I'm just not feeling it in any capacity. Overarching plot doesn't capture me at all (even if the individual town plots are, as always, on-point), the mish-mash of older mechanics (creating characters, classes, skill points, etc) feels unsatisfying, and the whole system of lower level characters receiving less experience from battles is driving me up the all. Also Stella is fucking annoying, and her being the only real character to stick around longterm just makes it worse.

Is there any reason at this point for me to try to trudge on through, or should I just jump ahead to XI?

I dropped it. That game is boring as fuck and the main party literally has no personality. The chick that's Erinn's friend is pretty hot tho

Current time is 18:33, with most of the series being probably in the 40-50 hour range.

I loved it but I can see why it wouldn't be for everyone. It's really grindy to do the best content.

I really don't like IX. The create a party doesn't work all that well with cutscenes.

IX is bad. There are no characters in your party and the plot sort of just moves forward by itself.
Skip to XI.

To be fair I was doing all the side stuff and spent a lot of time gambling since it was my first DQ game, but I just didnt have it in me to finish it even if I was going to just rush the plot.

I don't play JRPGs for the customization, I play for the story, and if literally everyone in my party is a piece of cardboard, how can I get invested?

I loved the DQ series and played a bit of all up to 8. I was going to be hyped by 9, but once I heard it was going to be an action RPG, I lost all interest..... and so did Japan apparently, so they took the game and reverted it back or something.

The fact this game was originally an action game told me that they were on the path to killing the series, so I never touched anything beyond 8.

IX was my first DQ game so I'm biased.

I think the second to last main story beat is worth playing through.

I've played through the game like 4 different times.

The post game didn't grab me though
