When a pokemon master captures a pokemon in a master ball, what does that make the pokemon?

I'd equate the capturing of a wild pokemon to some sort of instant-domestication process. Something like how humans turned wolves into tame dogs, except reduced as a process from thousands of years to the moment that the pokemon is captured.

Magically domesticated livestock with a purpose for fighting, which somehow fuels a worldwide economy in which preschoolers can earn and carry around large sums of money.

Yes, it is the equivalent to animal fighting. Probably more humane though as most animal fighting has very poor practices while Pokemon is an international sport. It's like if we legalized animal fighting and pokemon league was like the NBA. You know they would be well taken care of / managed. Where as in currently illegal fighting the conditions animals live in is very inhumane.

The pokemon also seem to be aware as to what is happening. Like a person entering a boxing match they know the throw blows in the ring but outside the ring is just regular life, the game is over. Where as with animal fighting they have to specifically train them to be the way they are and there is no on/off switch.

They've introduced lore over the years that explains it away. Basically humans and Pokemon share a common ancestor so they both feel a natural inclination to bond with each other (yeah it's stupid). Pokemon want to get captured because they get stronger by fighting and leveling up and wild pokemon are said to be jealous of captured ones. It's childish but so is the entire game.

Doesn't really explain the hundreds of pokemon that have been sitting in my pc boxes for decades though. Still waiting for the lore that makes you feel better about that

You treat your employees like trash.

We have a common bond: money. Those without a job are jealous of them. Besides, they love it.
