First, China would absolutely not, in the current state of affairs, engage in direct military action against Taiwan.
But IF it were to occur, Im fairly certain the US would not risk an open war with China over Taiwan. The stakes are too low compared to the catastrophic outcome of such a war. The ever inescapable benefits/losses equation.

If Russia actually does invade Ukraine and the US helps Ukraine I could see China taking advantage of that to invade Taiwan.

I love Taipei, but as long as they use the same "one country, two systems" policy like they use in Hong Kong, it should be fine.

It's really just a big power grab. Taiwan has become quite prosperous over the decades and China wants that sweet, sweet tax revenue. However, one of the reasons Taiwan is so prosperous is because it ISN'T China and has become a popular intermittent travel hub between the entire east Asia region.

I don't think China will take Taiwan by force if it thinks Taiwan will earnestly fight back. It would literally defeat the purpose of taking Taiwan. Taipei is one of the wealthiest cities in Asia and is integral to trade and travel relations all throughout Asia. If you turn it into a war zone, it all goes to shit and the nation massively loses value.

Russia maintains that it has always been their territory and that they are simply annexing it. Not an invasion and any who resist are terrorists who must be dealt with swiftly to prevent them interfering with good honest Russians who wish to work and live in the region peacefully.

I was going to say you can make more then whatever Putin is paying you at an actual job, but I doubt being a McDonalds Janitor pays more. That is the most prestigious job you are capable of acquiring and performing.

The only way China does that is if Russia simultaneously takes Ukraine by force. That's such a nuclear option to obtaining Taiwan. They are playing the long game, and have been chipping away slowly over decades to get Taiwan. Every now and again they do something more outlandish, but it's never going to be an open arms conflict where they kill civilians
