weeaboos are the ogs, the trailblazers, the patricians.

also we don't just stan the latest pop groups marketed to us.

the only overlap between weeaboos and kpop stans is boa. she is queen of all, and she is forever.

i feel like there's a consumerist bent to koreabooism that just doesn't exist with being a weeb

japanese entertainment industry doesnt give a fuck about the foreign market, meanwhile kpop has literal government investment into being pushed in front of us >_>

i've heard kpop, or at least the lot of its more internationally exported brands, isn't even that popular in south korea.

i'm confident there's a vibrant and more independent musical ecosystem consumed locally that international "stans" give a blind eye to.

Anime and now gacha is a huge market now in Japan and outside of it as well. It doesn't have the government initiative that Korea does with it's music like you mentioned but it's international reach has grown from even 10 years ago.

well yeah because (hello elephant in the room) kpop is more selling the idols than the music

ask anyone in vietnam or the philippines what teenage girls spend their time doing

it's watching kpop videos. over and over.

Kpop is immensely popular in korea. Yes, there is local music as well, but kpop is way way way more popular in korea than in the US.

so they are conflated together as you stated in the topic title and yet the terms are inconsistent.
