However, notwithstanding this individual's leaning prior to being subject to the penal system, there's a significant crossover between these folks and those who have fought tooth and nail against the effort for reform that can't be swept under the rug.

By my reckoning, this is peak "I warned you about the stairs, dawg."

So I'm hopeful this will serve as impetus to reform for at least some of the folks who have been against it.

Lock up less people for non-violent or non-dangerous crimes etc. people dont need to be in prison for drug use for example. Also prisons should be government run with appropriate resources, not privately run for profit with cut corners in staffing

I don't think people should be in prison for drug use, either.
I think the government should be running prisons as well, but what will happen is that they will be insufficiently funded because a certain party will prevent proper allocation of resources to make it more humane. Even that will still not prevent violent people from doing violent things.

We should be voting for the right people. Bernie as president would have gone a long way to making America a better place

The things he fears shouldn't be a thing. Still, he knew this could happen, still committed the crime, and it is extremely unlikely he ever held sympathy for anyone in his position.

Drug use shouldnt be a crime that gets you sent to jail. It absolutely should however, get you sent to some sort of ward where you have to stay until you are completely sober and no longer a danger to society.

Im not an expert in prison reform and people dont have to be in order to recognize that serving time is the punishment - not serving time and getting violently beaten/raped.

If you were genuinely concerned about the general population in prisons, that would be one thing, but you're being disingenuous in favor of taking care of the insurrectionist because he's a Trump supporter, so kindly come up with a solution for all inmates, not just your guy.

Weed is only dangerous to developing brains which is why it should be banned for people under the age of 21 like alchohol is. You cant casually use meth though, it does dangerous things to the human brain regardless of stage of development and addiction can make users do wildly illegal things like, again, grand theft and murder.

On top of that, glorification of violence and rape in prisons should stop immediately with harsh penalties for offenders in prison

And the focus of prison should be on rehabilitation, not punishment.

There was a movie about this, though it wasn't a nonviolent crime per se. They was driving a little bit over the limit and crashed and got his friends killed who were in the car with him. His sentence wasn't very long, but he kept getting more time added for shit that he to survive in prison.
