Great show. Their staying power is honestly really impressive. I haven't felt like there's been a decline of quality or stagnation or anything. It all feels well executed and feels relevant. They're good at blending dumb stupid humor into something thoughtful. They still pop into mainstream culture every once in a while (though dying down) and they have been for years. They're good at simplifying and mocking any genre or evoking any theme they want. The way they pull no punches for whatever they're doing is admirable, and since it's all dumb construction paper cutouts, they can get away with it and they know it.

The characters are all nuanced while also remaining shallow. Butters is my favorite side char, his innocence and the way he talks is so charming and it's funny when he gets manipulated into doing things cause of his innocence. Jimmy's funny cause he's brutally honest sometimes. Randy Marsh is generally funny in anything he's doing.

I haven't seen all the episodes or not a die hard fan or anything, but I have watched a good number of them and sometimes watch the new stuff that comes out. The last 2 (pandemic special and vaccination special) were good. Just randomly thought of it now

I've barely ever watched it tbh. The only episodes I can recall are when Cartman makes a guy eat his parents and the one with the Satanic chipmunks

Used to love it, but I'm mostly over it.

The movie was the best thing that they ever did.

I don't watch it consistently, but roughly every 3-4 years, I watch all of my favourite episodes and then catch up on all the episodes I've missed.

The quality has stayed impressively high throughout, though my way of watching it probably undermines my enjoyment a little as the show became way more topical in the last decade.

I haven't watched it since Trump was elected, and I get the feeling I've probably missed out on some good topical humor.

For the most part seasons 5-9 are the sweet spot & 10 marked a pretty big quality drop for me, but Breast Cancer Show Ever might be my favorite episode. It's basically a sister piece to Scott Tenorman Must Die, if you think about it.

The first few seasons were comedic gold. Then they started going downhill and still had a few seasons of watchable content. Then they just started to suck.

Whichever season had the Lord of the Rings episode was the last one that I remember somewhat enjoying. This new stuff is pure garbage compared to the first seasons. I wont even watch that as background noise.

It's had it's dips in recent seasons, but maintaining the longevity for as long as it has, and still airing and still getting viewers, and honestly still makes me laugh, it's pretty amazing. I was 15 or 16 when it first aired and it was the greatest thing ever, a profane, edgy cartoon that pushed a limit a lot further than The Simpsons when me and my friends were discovering the joy of a "green plant." I'm now nearly 40 and still watch new episodes within the first day of release. It's hard to maintain quality for that long, so I give credit where it's due.

Oh wait, that's still relevant and the right is still saying this. Restaurants and sporting events > human life.

I used to watch it but I kinda just got bored of it at some point, I don't know if it actually went downhill that much or not since then. I always had mixed feelings about how they'd change the show (stuff like taking away Kenny and replacing him with Butters for a while, putting more focus on Randy, etc.) but I kinda admired that they'd take risks like that and buck the kind of conventions you'd expect from other shows - this is just structurally speaking.

I know it's an overdone complaint, but in hindsight, the enlightened centrism "well it looks like both sides are dumb" crap doesn't sit well with me. I feel like it played a significant role in the polticial cynicism/apathy/edginess a lot of millennials and younger gen Xers have today

Thank you for reminding me. The whole stans dad thing is why I quit watching the show. That character is so forced and cringeworthy. I realized then that the show was no longer funny.

The show used to be funny when it was social commentary. Then they started creating all of these dumb story arcs and it just really fell off.

Has some legit funny moments as a cartoon.

Peak cringe when cited as a source of political commentary or argument.

Some of the stuff past the early years made me pretty uncomfortable. I mean it was always an adult/edgy show, but I mean like how the characters started treating Butters for example. The very early seasons were dialed down in that regard, though I guess it's good they moved past shallow vulgar humor... but then again, they still continued to use a lot of shallow vulgar humor, just with other stuff as well.

It will never be as good as the single digit seasons, but there are usually 3 good episodes per season. I'm disappointed more often than not, but I still get excited for new south park
