Of all the different pets I've owned (cats, dogs, hamsters, guinea pigs, frogs, reptiles, etc) rats have been by a relatively large margin the friendliest, smartest and most affectionate.

I had pet rats perpetually from like 1996-2008. They're good pets.

I'm not sure bringing a rat into a cat household is wise. Especially since one seems to really like killing things.
