every person i ever met at a con was some weirdo who was barely invested in the subject matter and seemed mostly interested in finding an afterparty to try to hook up at

panels are boring as FUCK and anyone who enjoys them needs a life

lines. lines. lines. lines. lines. more lines. more lines.

people who fly from out of state to go to a con are mentally ill full stop

I've never been to a convention, so I can't comment on how they are, but I've been enjoying their shift to a virtual space.

but it sucks for people who treat them as events, dress up, network, etc., that they haven't been able to attend last year.

You should try going to one, just for the experience. It's fun seeing all the cosplays in-person and taking pictures, some real creative and talented people out there.

I've never been to one. They seem like the kind of thing where you just spend a lot of time going though boring shit in the hope of something cool. Like I agree that panels look boring as hell to sit through but it's probably a rush if you get called on to ask a question. Or get an autograph/photo with someone, but that entails waiting in lines. The attendees there are probably pretty boring to interact with (at best). I guess talking to a celebrity would be kinda cool but in that setting it's pretty transactional.

Yeah I would probably go to one for a good party or something but I think those are more for the VIPs

I remember when San Diego ComiCon (that's what we called it then) was reasonable, local, inexpensive and fun in the '80's. Now it's an expensive, crowded, commercial shitshow with dorks from across the globe.

Go to the Anaheim one if you want to see what the old ones were like.

Or maybe you just happened to go to shitty conventions.

Or conventions aren't really your thing.

You know generalizing is not the answer.
i just want to hurt CE as they've hurt me

also if PAX West multiple times is a shitty convention then wtf counts as a good one tbh

I've been to comic con and anime expo. Comic con is just way too overcrowded now and I actually enjoyed anime expo more

every single convention of note is just way too crowded now unless it's primarily an anime one

i remember getting my PAX Prime badge like 3 days before the show started in 2011 and then two years later they were selling out in seconds the moment they went live

I usually just go for the merch stores & to play games. Panels are weird.

Honestly E3 (the actual E3 and not the press conferences) isn't really a bad format. It's like going to Six flags except instead of a roller coaster you get to play an unreleased game.

I'll take heat for this I'm sure, but anime and cosplay ruined the original vibe of the San Diego ComiCon.

EDIT: But it's true.

it's still overwhelmingly a con for funko pop collecting marvel universe cosplaying basic bitch ass nerds

that hurt it a lot more than the anime presence going from 0% to 5% imo

yea, they sound like they can be interesting, but idk if I have strong enough interests in anything to warrant going to one.

but if I was in the area while E3 was going on, and I had the opportunity to go, I think I would be interested in checking it out.

Yeah. I don't read comics anymore, but it was cool to just meet the artists, writers, editors, STAN LEE etc. The most fun were the MAD Magazine guys.

Now, it's nothing like that. As I mentioned earlier, the Anaheim ComiCon has that oldschool vibe - for now.

EDIT: "bitch ass nerds" is a highly scientific term of which I approve.

Covid has shown how unnecessary so many things are and what's actually essential.

Like who gives a shit about theaters anymore, overpriced tickets, snacks etc. Streaming is the way.
