I've got a decent grasp of the rules and what the aim is, but are there tips for what I should be looking for when discarding/keeping tiles?

I've gotten plat on 5 yakuza games (working on Y5) right now.

What I usually do is press SQUARE every turn to see if I have anything, then work on building pairs until I get triples. You need 4 or 5 triples and 1 pair IIRC to win, so pressing SQUARE during each turn helped me realize when I had a potential winning hand or not because it lets you go into the phase where it skips turns until you get a winning piece.

You won't win every time but the game never tells you to press SQUARE IIRC so it's the most important tip.

Otherwise, getting triple dragons is best followed by winds (favoring your own given wind IIRC) then whatever you can get your hands on.

For discarding/keeping, all you can do is see what every one else is dropping. If they discarded two of a tile obviously you can't make triples out of it. If they aren't discarding certain tiles you know they are probably holding them. NEVER steal, I've never won a hand stealing because you have to be above a certain threshold.

I guess if you already have a couple of triple dragons it might give you enough points but IDK, I've managed without stealing so far.
