Having them exposed to air is probably safer in terms of infection. Underwear, if not changed regularly, can be a nidus for bacterial growth and infection. And its not exactly keeping you safe either. And as the above poster said, it can potentially lower your sperm count.

What makes it lower the sperm count and is it even a significant loss? I agree that a enclosed, moist environment is breeding grounds for bacteria. It also depends on hygiene I guess. We learned that cleaning things is good to make things last longer. Just underwear alone could still be problematic but with hygiene, it's a good combo. It does keep you safe, like from random twigs/thorns/rocks, if you sit on a log and theres ecoli, the underwear is a layer of protection,poison ivy, etc
