They may have really wanted to get in an Ivy. The ones I knew who applied to a lot flat out applied to all of them along with MIT, Caltech, and some safeties. They may also want to see who can give them a better offer.

I went to HS in texas, which allowed you to automatically be accepted to any public state university if you graduated in the top 10% of your class. Due to that, I really never experienced this whole anticipation and excitement of waiting for college acceptance. I didn't apply to any private schools or out of state schools. So it was just, "well, let me see which one gives me the most scholarships"

I applied to CU Boulder and CSU Fort Collins and got into Boulder as a transfer student. Still not sure why I never heard back one way or the other from CSU but I preferred Boulder anyways so I went there.
