I think someone being a King assumes they are above the Queen, so this assures there is no question as to who is the ruler and who is not?

He's "Prince Philip" and not "King Philip" as "King" isn't a title given by marriage. There's no "King Consort" while there is a "Queen Consort". He also isn't legally "Prince Consort" in the UK that's only been the title of Prince Consort Albert given to him by Queen Victoria. He was originally a Prince of Greece, but lost that title when Greece abolished the monarchy in the 1970's. He was given the title "Prince of the United Kingdom" back in the 1950's.

He was nobility who married into the monarchy (royalty), IIRC. Nobility are above "commoners" but not royalty. That's how I understand it as American with lots of British friends.

Ive always pondered this topic question myself. I read earlier that he wasnt deemed King because he married her when she was still princess. If Queen Elizabeth had that surname at the time of marriage, he still wouldnt have been King Philip? ... Copied to Clipboard!
