Pretty good ending (to an excellent series) all things considered. However do yourselves a favour and be sure to read the official translation because the fan translations that were going around before the official release are terrible and make half the characters suddenly look like psychopaths.

Thoughts?

I don't know anything about it but it seems as usual most of the manga readers hate it

now I will leave this topic and wait to see it in the anime

Ive been watching the reaction and it seems more like people who read out of context spoilers and bad early translations hated it then people saw the full context and were okay with it mostly, which has been true for as long as manga has been popular on the internet...

bad spoilers were going around a lot and people hated those, yeah.
the actual finish was pretty damn good. it being animated will absolutely be superior, it'll add in extra touches, clear some things up, but it's a very solid ending. i think there's technically one character with notable questions left at the end (basically anything to do with the farmer who's with Historia, he's just randomly there) but it's not important to this story. job well done.

Historia's whole post-timeskip plotline is bad. Not really something to blame on the last chapter, but it was a big mistake.

Other than that, it was okayish. I don't think it was great, and it certainly could've been better. Reversing the Titan transformations was disappointing, but probably inevitable. And it didn't have much for hard-hitting emotional moments, unfortunately. Wouldn't say it's terrible, and it's a shame people misinterpret stuff so bad (all the jokes about incel Eren...).

I dunno, I rarely get physically emotional reading things and I welled up when Levi saw the survey corps, that was probably my favourite bit of the whole ending.

Agree with LS that the official translation is a ballgame away from the fan translations. There's a particularly... eye-opening... Armin quote in the fan translations that was causing meltdowns galore for a bit.

My take on 139 is that it's decent. Not great, but satisfying enough. MAPPA can turn it into a gem by focusing on the right aspects to expand upon.

It'll probably be more emotional in the anime? The anime's improved a lot of scenes like that. Armin fighting the Colossal Titan is way more emotional in the anime, for example.

I feel like the Eren page about him wanting Mikasa (the reason everyone is calling him an incel) didnt change unless I still havent found the official translation.

Not that I care either way but I'm not sure how much the official translation changed things for the people that hated it

I'm saying that was a misinterpretation by people from the start. All he's saying is that he wants to be loved too. He doesn't really want her to be alone forever or anything.

Ehh I don't really like it. But I haven't liked any of it since Ymir/the space caterpillar was introduced. I think giving the Attack titan the ability to see the future/influence the past just makes the whole thing needlessly complicated. I'm also generally not a huge fan of "good guy becomes bad guy to ultimately do something good" tropes. Either make Eren go full on genocidal maniac or have him stay good the whole time.

This. Its a display of human emotion towards someone he loves. Its a humanising moment. I feel that some readers get far too logical with their reads of characters actions and can sometimes ignore the emotional aspect of them.

I think this aspect was quite elegantly handled actually. The series takes a hard deterministic view of time travel where actions are written in stone. Eren was a slave to causality, and ultimately had no control over his actions. It happened because it happened, though wisely hes not made too sympathetic by saying that he may have gone through with it anyway. I also dont think its a good guy doing s bad thing for good reasons thing after reading the good translation - Armin calls it an error, it might not even work, and Eren could have stopped long before. It happened because it had to happen.

It might be elegant, but its also really dumb. One of the worst tropes ever when played straight IMO.
