Love the crap put of that show. Was thinking of watching it. I would dream about being in the temple. I would draw, very badly, my own temple version and come up with traps. Man what a time to be alive.

Damn that show was hard.

In the entire history of the show only 3 people have won $1,000,000 on wheel of fortune.

To win this, here's what you have to do:

  1. Spin, land on the million, and guess a consonant (easy)
  2. Win that round (harder, but okay)
  3. You can't get bankrupt any time after getting the million even in another round (hard)
  4. Win the whole game (really hard)
  5. Win the bonus round (also really hard)
  6. Get lucky enough after winning that the random bonus prize chosen is the one million dollars.

When I was watching as it aired, I never understood why the kids didn't just team up and beat the temple guards senseless and throw them out of the temple or hit them enough to distract them and run past. When I was a bit older, I realized the show had rules and such things would be assault and then it made more sense...

<_<

If memory serves, werent there 3 temple guards in like 15 rooms and the max number of amulets you could get was 2 or 2.5 or something? I remember some kids getting like half an amulet overall and it was like Oh, they are fucked.

That's not a good comparison. You can still win Wheel of Fortune without winning $1million.

2 amulets. Player one gets caught. Gives up their amulet but continues on. Gets caught again and Player two goes in. Player 2 gets caught and gives up amulet (if they have one, if not then game over). Player 2 continues on.

Green Monkeys and Silver Snakes won 8 times each

Blue Barracudas won 5

Orange Iguanas and Red Jaguars won 4 times.

Purple Parrots were the least successful with 3.

There was a Comic Con panel and event 5 years for it, and both the host and the voice of Olmec said the monkey really was overly complicated. They even had a recreation booth set up, and it took most adults a longer than it should have to get it together too.

And the preceding games made it possible to only have one and a half amulets

Te old joke was you could tell the odds of success depending on the grand prize. Trip to Florida? They have a shot. Trip to the Bahamas? That damned thing is going to be in the room on the far end bottom level but you're going to have to go through the entire top including definitely the monkey room and cross a bunch of guards.

Like there are definitely some runs that were doomed before they began depending on the previous rounds (including one that was actually unwinnable). There was one I remember where the 2nd guard (both unavoidable) kicking the kid out was the room before the artifact, so the other kid had to retrace the entire path. What was worse was that team had a great run, meaning if they couldn't do it... odds are no one could.

Throw in the difficulties of the temple and yeah, that's not surprising.

Yeah, they actually didnt have a ton of money to pay out prizes, so sometimes it was rigged to be unbeatable, or close enough.
Which sucks if your team gets the short stick, of course

What was the win rate for Nick Arcade's bonus round? I imagine it has to be lower than that, most of the teams there seemed to have absolutely no idea what the hell to do besides flail around wildly and hope for the best.

It wasn't hard, it was fake like all game shows.

It's illegal to fake a game show that offers cash money.

Anyways, I wanted to post this video from the show, but I can't find it anymore. The first kid that went into the Temple was slow AF and really screwed his teammate over, but then the second kid goes and just goes beast mode and destroys the entire thing, and wins it for both of them

An interview with a woman who was on the show in 1993.

Granted it's a Cracked article, so take that with a grain of salt.

Yeah, it's important to remember assembling that thing's probably a lot harder when there's a cheering crowd and tons more people who will see you on TV and you've just run through that temple and maybe got grabbed by some random dude who popped out of nowhere and have tons of adrenaline pumping through your 8 year old body. Inevitably some teams beefed relatively easy set-ups, whereas some were goddamned terminators.
