I've played a few demos for various titles but I just don't get it and feel like I'm missing something. I get that different people like different things, but I can't comprehend how ludicrously popular it is, to the point that companies give their employees the day off when a new one releases lol.

Is it for the crowd that really likes boss battles?

The epic boss battles are cool. Also just the feeling of your weapons having weight and monsters reacting accordingly in ways no other genre really does besides hitstun. And of course people like the loot and grind cycle

I had the same feeling when I first tried out Freedom Unite. At first, just fighting monsters felt so boring. Then my friend started playing and thats where the real enjoyment came from.

Idk what it is about it, but playing with friends makes the game so much fun.

See, I love boss rush games, and the idea of "Dark Souls but only the boss fights" excites me, but something about Monster Hunter never clicks for me. I think it's the grinding and the lack of any real end goal or motivation other than just getting stronger.

Playing with friends makes it fun and the harder monsters require more thought + strategy to take down than the monsters you likely fight in the demos.

Seems like a big part of the appeal of MH is the gear and the planning, which isn't really a dark souls thing i would say

Yeah I don't get it either. Movement and combat always feel clunky, and the whole running up on innocent animals minding their own business and murdering them has no appeal to me.

Part of the problem is that, IMO, monster hunter games have a really shitty first 10 hours or so. The first handful of hunts are always against moderately sized lizards and creatures that aren't particularly intimidating or impressive, and you spend a lot of your early grind against those monsters to create your first real armor set capable of taking on tougher enemies. It's not usually until the second half of low rank when you start to fight the types of monsters that really make the game shine.

So if you've only ever played a couple of demos or tried out the game from the beginning, you're basically getting the worst of Monster Hunter on loop.

It's an addicting gameplay loop, pretty much. Come across new monster, learn its movements and attacks so you can fight it more easily, get its materials to make new armor/weaponry, rinse and repeat. For many it might seem like you're not making progress in the grand scheme of things and just not be feeling it, and that's totally fine.

It's a game for people who enjoy the grind and looking to see how they can fight against new monsters, is all.

For me too, half of the fun is learning how to master the different weapons and builds. A lot of the time it's straight DPS and how to learn the best ways to optimize it with that weapon, but then you have stuff like MHW Sword & Shield which I thought would be boring but I found that I became a paralyzing and dunking God lol

Well it is but Dark Souls makes you do all your planning at the start while MH you constantly change your gear / weapon / artes as needed for every fight.

It feels like you're constantly building towards something. Better gear, better items, more difficult monsters, and getting better at the game.

It's like constant progression, it's a very satisfying loop.

This. I didn't enjoy monster hunter world until the elder dragons popped up. Fighting Teostra is a whole different experience than fighting Great Jagras.

4 ppl coop.

4 ppl online with other people.

The monsters are cool.

There is a bunch of different weapons and stuff.

Running around in a big jungle area with virtual wildlife is also cool.
