I've pretty much always lived in places surrounded by mountains. I'd find it weird not to have at least one nearby.

I grew up in the mountains and prefer it there. First time I went further west than Columbus was mind bending. Not a fan. I took a train from Chicago to Flagstaff once. All that flat land made me feel weird. It was cool but the lack of geographic reference points is ehhhh --- You know how fads are. Today it's brains, tomorrow, pierced tongues. I do like looking out at the mountains and hiking. Totally absent in the great lakes/plains region.

If you don't live by mountains or ocean / giant lakes / one of the few massive rivers in the US, it's not really even really living. It's just existing.

You mean like kansas? I've heard stories from people that lived there it's so flat that you can safely sit outside your house and watch a far away tornado do it's thing. Depending on visibility of course.
