I've pretty much always lived in places surrounded by mountains. I'd find it weird not to have at least one nearby.

Yep

I grew up in the mountains and prefer it there. First time I went further west than Columbus was mind bending. Not a fan.

I took a train from Chicago to Flagstaff once. All that flat land made me feel weird. It was cool but the lack of geographic reference points is ehhhh

I do like looking out at the mountains and hiking. Totally absent in the great lakes/plains region.

Got weird midwestern vibes in Sacramento when I visited last year.

If you don't live by mountains or ocean / giant lakes / one of the few massive rivers in the US, it's not really even really living. It's just existing.

That's what it's like here, but at least there's 10,000 lakes around

You mean like kansas? I've heard stories from people that lived there it's so flat that you can safely sit outside your house and watch a far away tornado do it's thing. Depending on visibility of course.

Easy for me to imagine, I grew up in florida. Don't think I saw any mountains until I was a teenager.
