https://www.thestar.com/news/gta/2021/04/04/wikipedias-diversity-gap-echoes-around-the-internet-heres-what-local-groups-are-doing-to-help.html

The most recent 2020 survey by Wikimedia the sites parent organization found that 87 per cent of its editors are men. The survey did not ask about race, but almost half live in Europe and one fifth in North America. Sarah Severson, a librarian at the University of Alberta and a member of the board for Wikimedia Foundation, said that the lack of diversity trickles to the content on the site, because its volunteer-based, so editors will work on pages that they are interested in. You see really long articles on Dungeons and Dragons characters, and you see an independent female artist having a small article, Severson said. You dont know whats missing unless you have diversity within the editor forces, she continued. When you have an editorial community thats all North American white men theyre just going to see different things.

I'm sure the lack of diversity does actually distort what people make articles about, but that's a laughable ridiculous comparison. Dungeons and Dragons is a a huge franchise, with dozens if not hundreds of books which have reach the New York Times bestsellers. Of course those books characters are going to have larger articles than independent female artists. Pick a more similar comparison like an independent RPG, or writer.

its volunteer-based
This, so if you see a lack of detail on an article, go ahead and edit it yourself.

it sounds like she's trying to somehow blame men and the website for the observation that women are not as interested in volunteering to create content for the site that women will be interested in?

Uh, no it doesn't? How do you get that from the statement? She said men focus on stuff that interests men, and women focus on stuff that interests women.
