If you're seeing that, it could possibly be in raw numbers, whereas I'm going by households. That's a better way to judge "dog people vs. cat people"

I mean, I get what TC is saying. But at the same time, they're the one non-human animal that's as close to a functional member of society as possible, so it's kind of to be expected.

Like, a lot of dogs literally have jobs. They help treat mental illnesses, act as navigation for blind people, physically assist people who are disabled, diagnose certain diseases, act as police officers, etc etc etc...
That's all on top of genuinely feeling like a family member to most people because they evolved alongside humans.

Like, I get it. It's really cringey when people call them "fur babies" but still. It's a justifiably losing battle just because of how similar they are to humans.

i am not

dogs have been bred to view us as part of/the leader of their pack. they actively and automatically seek out socialization from us. cats do not automatically (exceptions exist but it's a trained rather than innate behavior), so it is easy to have a bunch of cats in your home, but quite a bit of work to have more than one or two dogs.

I find dogs to be too needy and excitable. I'm a cat man through and through. If you get a cat that you mesh well with, they can be quite affectionate in their own way.

I mean the same can be said of any extreme viewpoint, so it's fair to not feel the same way about dogs as those who are nuts about them.

Dogs are pretty great for a lot of the reasons mentioned before, but are not for everybody. And I find that in a lot of cases (but not all of them) when you encounter a bad dog, it tends to be a reflection of the owner.

You must have boundaries in your life. Let in light, not darkness into your social circle. A person will very quickly reveal their inner light or darkness early into any relationship. Many folks cannot read signs or ignore signs due to their own suffering (desperate for company, will overlook others' clear and obvious faults).
