The video in short, has an interview with Jacky Wright, the Chief Digital Officer of Microsoft talking about the Company's steps forward to acquire Discord. A few take-aways from the video I noted:

At 2:54, Wright says "We are working closely with the team over at Discord. We know that individuals who use it don't want anything on the platform to change, but like big tech companies, everything grows. Everything expands. We have big plans in store for Discord and we don't think the userbase will be disappointed."

Then at 8:04, she is asked about the failings of Mixer and how Skype fell off and said "Acquiring Skype was like acquiring Myspace back in 2009. It was just a bad investment on our side of it. There's been bad choices we have made at Microsoft, but we don't regret anything."

Then she closes, saying that they don't plan for the deal to be made and locked in for another few months.

In short, to me, it sounds like she hasn't learned a thing about these experiences, and doesn't state that Discord will be kept the way it is. I use Discord a lot. Skype was my thing long ago, but once Microsoft bought it, the interest was lost. They literally kill anything they touch that they themselves didn't make.

I don't understand this fad with them, and wish they'd give it a rest already. The last thing we need is to keep these technology giants absorbing smaller companies and products straight into a god damn monopoly.

Too early to call, but I assume you are right. That's why companies acquire other companies.
