Been looking at an 86 inch 8k Sony tv that apparently used deep learning algorithms to upscale - which would be nice for switch games.

Get you a nice 4KTV that has HDMI 2.1 and save your money

I already have a 4k tv with hdmit 2.1. It's a Sanyo 65 inch that I got for free because it is nearly dead despite buying it last year. I'm looking to replace that one.

Also, what's the issue with upscaling? I recently saw a computer algorithm do a pretty good job with the opening to Sonic CD in both 720p and 4k with only minor artefacts

A monitor.

Do they have large monitors these days? Like I'm looking for something to go in the living room

i don't think you want that shit for gaming
there's no way it doesn't add unnecessary input delay

If you look at 2021 models you need to wait another few weeks until they finish testing them, they aren't done with Sony TVs yet. LG has some great 2021 models

They do, but it also depends on your preferences and what kind of games you play. Do you want your games to look nice, or feel nice when you play?

TV will absolutely bring out the best colors and viewing angles for games like RPGs, platformers and the like, but monitors have better refresh rate and less input lag, making games like fighters and shooters super smooth.

If it's for gaming you should check out the input lag, shoot for 20ms or lower. Might be hard on a tv that size though. I wouldn't want to play anything competitive on it, but casual or single player games would be cool

Sounds like you probably have a decent TV

This is one of the best times of year to buy though, it's between TV years.

It's one of the worst times of the year, you want to buy a few weeks before the Super bowl or during the fall. Last year's models aren't going to go on sale much anymore and there is little stock because they stopped making them.

Get a 55 or 65 inch 4K HDTV. Good enough.

Isn't that the time of year they specifically make Black Friday models that are cheaper and break easier?

Absolutely they get flooded with trash TV's. You gotta have a model or two you look out for and they will be guaranteed to be on sale but you won't see them in stores like those shitty Hisense models
