Yeah people complained when MLB added a runner on 2nd base during extra innings (which seems like it is going to be a full-time thing now). And also people are going to complain any time they make a change in baseball, good or bad.

But having a runner on 2nd in extra innings is much better than ending tie games with a home run derby.

Some kind of rule change after the second extra time that increases the likelihood of a goal, for instance:

Any time a player is fouled and there's a free kick the fouled team can choose where the free kick is performed.
No defenders in the own goal or penalty area allowed.
Goalkeeper may touch the ball with hands and arms only in the goal area, or only in the penalty area but not in the goal area.

It's hard to score in other sports too. But that is more due to player defensive skill and less due to massive field size like it is in soccer.

See old MISL scores that are on average higher scoring than hockey games even.

Low scoring or high scoring doesn't make a sport good or bad. It's WHY those sports are sports are low scoring or high scoring. Individual baskets don't mean that much in basketball, that's just how the sport works.

You're talking about individual performances and basketball is arguably the best sport for individual performances.

I personally enjoy all sports to some degree. The only ones I dont like are ones that I dont understand. Cricket for instance.

Not to sidecar this into a completely different discussion. But while equal pay should exist logically, it unfortunately can't be a reality right now. Women's soccer just doesn't pull in as much revenue, despite their success, so the funds for higher pay don't exist.

The biggest reason the men's team continues to disappoint is because unlike many other countries, where the nation's best athletes play soccer, in the US our best athletes just do not play this sport. It's usually 5th in line at highest. for the people who weren't good enough for American football/gridiron, baseball or basketball. Hockey is probably 4th. Soccer might not even be 5th in line.

The US is so huge that every state, city and region has its own culture.

Hockey has always been big in the north and/or in the original 6 NHL cities: Chicago, Boston (the Bruins were a much bigger deal than the Patriots until 2001), Pittsburgh, Philadelphia, Buffalo, Minnesota, etc. I didn't include New York in that list because hockey's clearly last place in NYC, the Rangers sell-out just by the fact that it's such a large city, and the Islanders gained 0 interest in Brooklyn. I can elaborate more on that.

But other regions have their own unique niches too for example basketball was always the #1 sport in Indiana. No one cared about the Colts until Peyton Manning, even now it's still #2 behind basketball.
