Looking to finally get my hands on Geoff Johns' entire Justice Society of America work (his best stuff IMHO), and I'm having trouble figuring out exactly what that entails what with various name changes and conwriting credits. I don't want any of the stuff from when he was working with Goyer, I'm just looking for when he went solo with it. This stuff is obviously out of print and as it was not nearly as much of a sensation as his GL In not seeing an obvious huge collection, plus most of the stuff he did with Goyer still has John's name leading the cover, regardless of the lower quality of those co-written books.

As a prequel, you might want to check out his Stars and STRIPE series if you haven't.

Johns doesn't start on JSA until issue #6, but that's co-written by Goyer. They co-write for the next year and change. Goyer is credited as co-writer for issue #23 (first part of Return of Hawkman), but not the next two parts of the story, so you might want to start with #23 just to get the whole story. From there it's Johns solo until #32 when Goyer returns. They co-write again (aside from #42, Johns only) until #52 when Johns goes solo again. Johns writes up to #77, takes a few issues off (written by Keith Champagne), and writes one final issue with #81.

Then there's a separate book, Justice Society of America vol. 3, which comes after JSA. Johns begins writing that from the first issue and continues up to #9. At #10 he starts co-writing with Alex Ross until #19. Johns writes #20 - #22 solo, then co-writes with Jerry Ordway for three issues. Geoff Johns' final issue was #26, a cute story featuring Courtney Whitmore.

I'm sure he wrote some annuals and other stuff too (like that JLA/JSA thanksgiving crossover) but those are the main books.

Fantastic info. Am I correct that volume 3 is the one that started with the iconic Alex Ross cover with the table? My own research got mixed signals as to whether that retained the issue numbers from the previous volume or started over at #1.

Boy, all this stuff was just second nature to me back when I was still in the game. Several years removed from weeklies and its all slipping away, lol.

My goal here is to try and purchase whatever comics are still actively available that I truly loved from back when I first got into comic books through...less than savory means. While I did end up putting what may have been thousands of dollars into the industry that never would have happened had I not had hundreds of GBs of issues on a laptop to turn me into an obsessive superfan, it still doesn't feel great that this as well as many of my other favorite comic book runs of all time have never seen a dime from me, even though I bought every issue of The New 52 series for months on end including total crap. Piracy lost all it's viability for me the day I bought that nice hardcover of Identity Crisis all those years ago...which I still love no matter how terrible it is.

Ha, same here. I kind of vaguely remembered all this, I had to look up the details.

Yep, that's the one, with Stargirl sitting on top of the table and the rest around it. I'm going off DC Database that says it's Vol. 3. "JSA" is considered a completely separate title and is marked Vol. 1.

That's what led to my primary confusion. I was almost certain that the fully articulated title was Geoff John's solo stuff, but then finding this is still lists the abbreviation.

But my guess is it was just for the sake of consistency with he precious volumes.
