Usually when people talk about defunding the police, they mean reinvesting that money into programs that will help prevent crime from happening in the first place.

Millions is spent in domestic prevention here, and the rates doing but nothing going up each year, drastically. The crime wont suddenly disappear. An after school program isnt stopping the kids at midnight checking for unlocked car doors

It's what the mob wanted last summer in all those peaceful protests, it's called kowtowing.

Besides, the defund the police crowd could never make up their minds anyway. They somehow wanted money taken away from police dept's and for there to be increased training of police.

Nobody said crime will totally disappear.

But surely we can agree that there are plenty of situations where a police officer is less helpful than, say, a mental health expert.

Simply throwing people in jail doesn't fix the societal conditions that caused the crime in the first place.

and what are you going to tell the thousands of people often innocent, often minorities, that the cops kill? hey sorry but at least a case worker didn't get stabbed instead! even though they got stabbed despite the police existing, so they actually didn't do anything to help that situation, so you know what just shut up and be grateful you get the privilege of being murdered by us. now give us more money so we can train more cops to treat every situation as life or death so they keep overreacting and murdering people. also let's hire more cops so we can lower the quality of cops by lowering standards. Oh and that cop that murdered your son, he got 2 weeks of paid vacation and then was put right back.
