I remember listening to a podcast where a guy talked about playing Genshin for a bit and rolled $100 to get a character. And when he complained to the community, they were like "only $100? You're shouldn't be complaining about that! That's so little compared to the odds!" and he was like what the actual fuck >_>

To be fair, a lot of people are furious at Microtransactions, lootboxes and DLC practices

But a minority of people keep buying them so games keep having them

That's capitalism.

The industry even has a term for them, "Whales."

Doesn't matter if only 25,000 of your 1,000,000 userbase are buying that shit. If 25,000 people are doing it, some of which are spending 4/5 figuresa year on it. It's lucrative.

When you see those shitty games that charge you $25 to have your gun in blue, how many people do you really think are buying it?

Yeah that community's view on money is so different from what I grew up with. You can spend hundreds or thousands, and you're only a "dolphin." You're not a whale unless you spend tens of thousands.

They'll also get very literal with what "pay 2 win" means. For as long as I can remember, pay 2 win means paying for performance. If the money you spend makes your character better from a gameplay perspective, it's pay to win.

Their argument is you can clear content without paying. Yeah you can, but it's not the OP bullshit that I see them do. Enemies just get put in a blender when they play. Then they have the nerve to complain the game is too easy.

Gacha communities are fucked. There's only 2 people. F2P and Whales. No one gives a shit about the guy who only wants to spend like $20 or so here and there.

Cosmetic-only microtransactions are fine by me. If people want to give their horse shiny armor or to have their gun covered in bacon, that doesn't bother me at all.

But fuck random lootboxes, and fuck putting things that actually change the game or give an advantage behind paywalls. That shit needs to die, or at least stay isolated to shitty free-to-play waifu gachas and not $60 AAA titles.

Hey now, horse armour wasn't cosmetic, it made the best horse in the game worse.
