I remember dubstep because I still listen to it. None of that brostep (skrillex) though. Hate that kind of dubstep lol.

Remember dubstep? Let's see the current state of dubstep.

Brostep
Chillstep
Tearout
Colour Bass
Melodic Dubstep
Riddim
Future Riddim
Space Bass/Freeform Bass
Deathstep
Minatory
Classic Dubstep
Purple

It's very healthy and thriving. Yeah, it's not the trendy genre to latch on like in the early 2010s. However, it keeps mutating in amazing ways.

The Wakaan label has been putting out mind melting music the last few years. It's called space bass/freeform bass or sometimes alien/weird bass. It takes the sound designs and rhythms of dubstep, glitch hop, and trap a lot.

Much of it is categorized under dubstep, but it feels more like an evolution. It's really reminding of era when dubstep was really mutating in mid/late 00s where branched off into brostep, purple, post-dubstep, riddim, deathstep, melodic dubstep, etc...

As far as major producers and labels briddim has really caught on lately. Think of a brostep form of riddim. Tearout is a very harsh sounding harder style that's still underground. Minatory is an even harsher and darker style that's extremely underground. These 2 are sort of branches of deathstep and parallel. And now just in last 2 years future/melodic riddim and colour bass are exploding in popularity. Heck, Phonon's "Polyriddim" is in 7/4 time and has gained a lot of acclaim in dubstep circles. It could be an early sign of a whole progressive/math focused dubstep/riddim.

There's also genres not categorized under dubstep that take a lot of elements or are kind of like cousin genres like hybrid trap, halftime, future bass, midtempo bass, etc.. All under the greater category of bass heavy EDM music.

So it's a very virbrant time.
