Hey man I'm 27 as well and was feeling that sorta way at the start of the pandemic. Dropped out of college two years in (back in 2014ish) but I plan on going back next semester. It's a hard rut to get out of but you can do it. Just start living a little more for yourself and the people you love.

Little by little, maybe get rid of the things you know will make you feel like youre in a rut - right now it seems like being at home is the problem, like others said, the best thing you can do is keep movement by moving forward and literally doing everything to keep that going.

Solve out jobs and ways to make money to get yourself out, just start by seeing a wad of cash thatll make you wanna save up for more.. get outside more often if you can, its not good to be inside all the time. Even spending 10 minutes outside or driving/walking around will do you good.

Therapy will also let you skip some of the muck there too if you havent considered that yet

27 is young even if youre just barely starting over in a fresh mindset.

Trust me, I realized how young 20s and 30s and 40s and 50s and etc are after coming within inches of biting the dust in an accident.

You should only compare yourself with yourself. Move the needle on self-improvement every day and eventually youll be a beast.

Don't devalue yourself just because you aren't where you are right now. It's not too late to improve your situation. I'm not saying it will happen in a day, but you're still alive. You can make something of yourself.

If you're feeling depressed, I recommend speaking to a professional. It doesn't make you "weak" or anything.

Maybe it's a cliche at this point but... It's okay to not be okay. It's okay if you need help. We're not unfeeling, perfect machines. We're human.

you're not shit. Your life is far from ruined. I wasted 4 years in CC and 2 years in a university for a degree that was essentially worthless (and I had no passion). I worked at a low paying office job after I graduated and did some research and asked family members.. and got into the bio tech industry. I was grateful for my manager to let me work part time with benefits while going to school full time to get a certificate, which allowed me to get into the industry I am in that pays fairly well after a year, and I was 27 when I finally got in, and it was entry level.

so don't give up and put yourself down. It's never too late. You absolutely HAVE to change your mindset and work ethic. Do some research, ask friends and family. Find a career path you can see yourself enjoy doing, and make sure it's a path were there are plenty of jobs and pay well (Stem for example)

take care of your mental health too. Maybe see a therapist if you think it will help? Do things that make you feel happy, but aren't destructive to your health or anyone else's, like recreational hobbies and exercising. And talk to people.

I'm sorry you are going through this. I just want to let you know that you are not alone feeling this and that it's never too late, but the sooner you make a decision, the better, especially if you wanna settle and have a family.

You are smart enough bro. College just takes discipline and dedication. Some majors are harder than others but well worth it. I have a bachelor's in liberal arts, but managed to get into biotech after a year of taking a biotech program at a local CC and getting a certificate of achievement.

@awesome999 I know your intentions are genuine but delivery is really bloody important in this context. Your route is completely counterproductive and doesn't help at all.

But for the uninitiated, he's trying to mimic this article.

https://www.cracked.com/blog/6-harsh-truths-that-will-make-you-better-person/

OP, I will tell you that I feel like I've wasted the last 4 years at this one job where I've learned absolutely nothing and feel even further behind in life compared to my friends. Even worse, I've started a number of projects and I've failed to complete any one of them. But this sounds a bit disingenuous because I've had insane life changing success investing in the crypto world, more so than 90% of the people who have touched the field, am quite knowledgeable of the field yet I feel like a total failure in life.

But my point is that to get out of your funk, you want to have accomplishments under your belt. Therapy isn't going to help anywhere near as much as finding a goal and working toward to fulfilling it. What you'll have to do is keep trying new things, keep learning new things, and focus on finding a field that will absorb your time and through it, developing a skill that you want to show off to the world and enjoy doing so.

Be willing to use it for others and give it away for free and opportunities will follow and you'll gain accomplishments through it. I spent my time reading up on blockchain tech and was knowledgeable enough to do a couple lectures at my local university for a friend's professor. That opportunity evolved to us collaborating with a few others on a grant that we could have turned into a legitimate company, but things went south and so it's on hold. It didn't work out that well, but this would never have been possible if I weren't gungho about blockchain wanted to share with the rest of the world my adoration for the field.

You're 27, which is old, but I was busy burgerflipping at 26 and I still live with my parents at 29. It's still possible to turn your life around. But you have to take risks and be adventurous.

Therapy requires you to be open to suggestions and ideas. You can't be dismissive and say "it won't work". You gotta be real open and tell them every detail about your self-hatred and work from there.

Of course it can't. Well actually, you could learn social skills through therapy, but for the most part you have to do that yourself. You have to improve your mindset- and it's going to be a very slow process, so you can work towards getting those things without giving up so easily. Therapy can help teach you techniques to work towards that. It can also help you realize that you're not nearly as fucked as you think you are.

Lying to yourself about what

I'm very upfront about my problems and what I think about to my therapist. That's how diagnoses get made, that's how certain problems get focused on, and you potentially see things in a different light when given certain ideas and suggestions

Also you kinda have to elaborate on what you mean by "having a clue what they're doing". What were your past negative experiences with therapy like?

It sure as fuck isn't likely to happen fast based on past experience and no I really don't have that much time

My past experiences were basically just them asking me how I feel and not offering me jack shit about how to do anything differently
