Current Events > Never bought an unlocked phone before. How does it work?

I'm due for an upgrade / out of contract / whatever with Verizon and my old S8 after years of flawless reliability has started to bug out on me. So, it's time to get a new phone.

Was looking at buying a Note 4a unlocked on Amazon instead of paying a million dollars for a new galaxy/iphone at the Verizon store. How does it work? Do I take it in with my S8 to them and they activate the new phones sim, or what?

recently bought one on amazon, got an plan online, they shipped the sim card, I put it in myself and set everything up, took 5 minutes and it works great

You cannot remove the sim card from the s8 as far as I'm aware, though?

Edit: Nvm, you can. Interesting. So I don't need to involve Verizon at all?

Just put the sim card in and it should work if it doesn't you would have to call to get the phone registered in the system it transferred doesn't take long you just give them some number located on the box where the phone comes in and then you just put the card in it. You might have to pay though round $15

This reminds me of when my iPhone fan buddy insisted the s9 doesn't have expandable memory.

He even said he checked his gfs phone out and was very adamant he was correct. She also said it didn't have expandable memory.

Never has using a paperclip been so satisfying. She was just blown away to realize it did. Lol.

But yes, I upgraded from an S8 a few months back. Bought a new S10+ direct from Samsung, swapped the SIM and SD card (Samsung also has an app that transfers every app and file on internal storage automatically, made it very easy), then shipped my old S8 back since I was trading it in.
