In my experience it's the knights that catch me off guard

I always kill the knights ASAP just to prevent a late game fuck up

Rooks and Bishops are easy to read

Admittedly, my skill in chess is quite limited, which means most of my games are overly aggressive and involve the queen and bishops gunning for an early checkmate. I suspect if I were a better player, and played better opponents, The rook would be a lot more important.

i mean... the rook only needs one pawn to move to do a rook lift, the same as a bishop or queen move...the problem the rook is generally not going to be doing much until the game opens up

You always want to try and castle asap.unless you have another strat.

Also most pros consider the Bishop to be the 2nd most useful price besides the Queen even if it's worth less points than a rook. Which is why knight for bishop trades are always a great choice if available.

They're easily the most powerful non-Queen pieces on the board though! They have a much more extensive movement range than a bishop and are perfect for reinforcing a key area or setting up a breakthrough.
Of course, I was never that good at chess, but it was always great to get those bad boys out to start wreaking havoc.
