What's wrong with this tweet? It's true. Culture and having strong family values are among the top factors to success. An Indian buddy of mine once told me every kid is told by their parents; "Medical doctor, Engineer, Investment banker, CHOOSE ONE". And they foster that growth toward one of those careers all the way through their lives.

We don't have this in black culture, we are already struggling to make sure kids have a strong father as a role model in their lives, let alone seeing more children in married households.

Yes. They will also choose a white sounding name over a Mexican sounding name. In other words, they are going to choose their own versus "The other".

The odds are stacked against us. Yes. But that doesn't absolve us of personal responsibility to find our own success and do our best in what we can control. It wasn't institutional racism that lead half the mothers in my friend circle to be raising kids alone. It was them having accidents with not so good men. It wasn't institutional racism that a family in my neighborhood of 8 kids have a few of them not in the school system and aren't learning anything. It's the lack of action on the parents.

There are toxic issues in our own culture that we can directly influence. If we prioritize having strong family values, the base standards of the black community will rise.

No, but I feel that's a result of how their culture influences their family structure, and not because of whites picking favorites. It's not hard to imagine that a tight family structure that pays close attention to their kids produces better results than one guy having 4 kids with 4 different women while not being involved in any of their lives. And I know those are extreme examples, but you can't tell me the black community doesn't have a huge problem with absentee fathers.

You say this, but Nigerian's are the most successful ethnic group in the U.S. If anything it supports the argument that Black Americans still feel the effects of slavery to this day since Nigerian immigrants tend to come from wealthy educated families already. what influences culture the most, if not history? And Nigerians also didnt have their culture and dignity stripped from them. Their parents didnt have to spend time fighting for basic human rights on American soil. They got to skip that part because of AAs.

When it comes to black dads specifically, most, in fact, live with their children. A CDC study found that about 2.5 million black fathers were living with their children, and about 1.7 million were officially living apart from them.

are asians not getting in trouble for their crimes as well? or is just only black people who get arrested?

Racists are so dumb. Reason why black community in some areas and 3% nationally are more violent against asians is because of socioeconomic reasons. Asians own alot of businesses in black communities, rather than the blacks themselves owning the business. So it skews towards crime being naturally black on asian due to robbery/assaults against store clerks.

This recent uptick however, its definitely sporadic and less about socioeconomic reason and more about just anti-asian hate and oppportunism.

It's like people think that we raise our children like harp seals and leave them to their own devices

Black fathers are very involved with their kids, whether they live in the same home or not. It's more of a multi-generational familial and community based approach to raising kids in the black American community.

The culture my parents grew up on and the culture I grew up on are night and day. For starters, when my mom grew up, she couldn't go down more than a few blocks without some neighbor informing her parents where she was going. We don't have that sense of community anymore. All the while, other races in my area huddle together and pool their resources to get ahead.

I implore you all to learn about wealth and how generational wealth is made. "The Millionaire Next Door" is a good book to read. The reason why I bring this up is because the lifestyle to rise to a millionaire status is the EXACT OPPOSITE of so many trends in black culture. We have a lot of cultural values that end up sabotaging ourselves.

In my immediate friend circle alone, we have 2 mothers and one expecting father and one expecting mother. The expecting are both married, the other 2 are single. Their baby daddies are deadbeats. I have another friend whose kid's father is once again a joker. The nuclear family is not the norm and racism isn't to blame for this (unless you want to delve into the production of hip hop culture). It's the decay of nuclear family values.
