Why do all of kiryus attacks have so much recovery time? You can pretty much dodge only after like 2 whole as minutes after attacking. Why is the combat like this? It makes no sense. The game wants you to dodge but the dodge only sends you like 4 centimeters in a direction so youre still pretty much in the enemy attack's path leading to you still getting hit. Maybe its because i just came off of playing alot of DMC 5 but this is painful to play lol

Agreed

I've only played 0, but I couldn't get into it. The story was kind of interesting but the combat just seemed really clunky and boring

Yakuza 1 Rush style combat was fighting at its peak in the Yakuza games. Especially when an opponent like Majima would also dodge at a similar frequency to you, felt like a straight up DBZ fight.

If your playing 0 its much more funner when you got the item that lets u switch style during middle of combos and dash cancels in rush.
Y6 i can agree tho.

This is true but sometimes it still gets to be an annoyance.

I just whooped whats his faces ass in the fight before Tachibana comes and save you in a ferrari and like by the time it was done I was so over it.

I had a moment where I kept using the L1 dodge against Majima's blade then he'd evade all my punches and it was the sickest shit. Kiryu perfectly dodging every swing. Looked like expert choregraphing, all naturally emerging from the gameplay.

When I first started Yakuza I was very frustrated. I wanted it to be like Metal Gear Rising or Bayonetta. I think the most annoying thing in Yakuza games is that you can appear to land a direct hit that opens you up into a combo, then the AI will block your finisher, or maybe even recover as you begin the finisher, dodge, and counterattack, just like Kiryu does.

General tips I can give: if something isn't working, evaluate what you're doing. Don't use assumptions of how this kind of game is supposed to work. Change strategy often, especially Kiryu's stance. You may find a fighter is blocking every punch as Brawler, then you switch to Rush after a dodge and suddenly you're laying into them. Maybe they start shrugging off your weak hits, then you switch to Beast and find that you can rip right through their counters.

The hardest boss I can think of (genuinely difficult, not annoying) is the first Kuze fight, basically the first boss in Yakuza 0. You don't know the combat well and you don't have Beast mode yet; in my experience Beast tears through him like no other style can. He's definitely an example of looking like you broke through only for him to get a second wind and knock you to the floor.

For his first health bar it should be sufficient dodge around him and hit his back during his strings (this is basic advice for almost any boss in Yakuza). The back is a weak point always. Try not to be too greedy, you might have time to do a finisher but if you go XXXX first, maybe not. When he reaches heat mode you should grab.

I literally had a topic seething about that fight in Y0 when I first started, now I love the series

of course the simplest advice is BUY HEALTH RECOVERY because it lets you make 10,000% more mistakes

All your advice wont change the fact that the games control like ass molasses. And yes yakuza 0 is awesome.
