Do you start out naked and have to punch rocks and trees just for some guy who played since pre alpha to come along and kill you?

It's mostly a PvE game and there's a button for PvP. If you make your world public I suppose you can get building grief'd but nobody can kill you.

Anyway I'm not big on the genre, but a bunch of buddies wanted me to play so I bought it and it's actually pretty fun. Definitely more fun if you have people to play with but it's not bad solo.

I havent played yet, but heard it doesn't have many of the tedious mechanics like those in other survival games.

the building in that game looks kind of crap to be honest. is there any point to it beyond vanity? does your base serve a point?

The more neat shit you have, the more "comfort" you get which is a stamina buff useful for exploring. So it kinda incentivizes you to return every now and then to get the buff. Also building apparently reduces monster spawns so if you need to sort/craft things its better to do it in a base rather than on the fly where monsters can fuck your shit up.
The game is a lot of fun but I doubt I would have liked it solo. Multiplayer deffo is a lot of the fun.
