Got a call from someone who claimed to be calling from my medical insurance provider. I did take leave started last Friday so thought it might be related to that.

She started the call by saying it was to discuss new offerings and the call was being recorded for quality purposes. Then she said they took security very seriously and would like for me to identity myself by providing my full name, DOB and address they have on file.

Yeah no, if you are calling me then Im not providing any info. Which is what I told the chick on the phone. She sounded very nervous and was quick to say ok and end the call. Looked up the number and theres been a few reports of it being a scam.

Never provide any identifying info if you arent the one calling them.

Yep. If they're calling you they don't need to verify who you are the same way if you called them.

Don't know how someone can devote their time to such a scummy practice as scamming. It's no better than robbing people blind.

Yup. I try educating my folks so they dont fall for this. I just tell them never to provide any type of info no matter how convincing it sounds. And to call the company back at their number thats officially listed on their website if they want to be sure its real or not. I have gotten calls for medical bills that were legit but asked me to verify myself first. I always tell them I will call them myself and look up the number online. Had a lady get all bitchy with me about it but idc

Several months ago I got many calls from many numbers about insurance. I called most of them back and told them to take me off the list. They might have been legit though. I recently discovered my insurnace plan was auto-changed due to less income due to being out of work from covid.

I also got a text about an "error" in my unemployment and I ignored it, assuming it was a scam. Lo and behold, on my state's unemployment website, there was a warning message for that exact text being a scam

I do not receive notifications, so using the @ feature will not do anything. I might see your post and respond though if I have already been in the topic.

If I have time to kill, I'll entertain them by giving made up information. My favorite is when they call from "Microsoft Support" and want me to run Regedit.com. I usually pretend to lost, unable to follow their directions, and then ask whether having a Mac matters.

I use True Caller, so when I get a scam call I label it as Registered Sex Offender. Anyone else who uses the app and gets a call from that number after me will see that as the caller.
