while IV is the proper Roman numeral for 4, IIII is also acceptable when it comes to timepieces

part of me prefers IIII because it evenly divides the numbers into 3 sets:
the I set (I, II, III, IIII)
the V set (V, VI, VII, VIII)
the X set (IX, X, XI, XII)
