You realize correcting an article two months after publication once new information comes to life is the opposite of fake news, right?

Everything else, is theory.

But no one cares about the correction after the fact. Most read the article (most times just the title) and form their opinion off of that and never revisit it afterwards.

Most people think facebook memes are facts, but that's not really the point.

It's fake news when the "correction" is admission that they blatantly made up a quote that was never said. The original article got reposted by like every major news source only a few days before the capitol riot. They used the fake quote in the impeachment hearings:

Because I was led to believe this one thing for a few months. Actually used it in arguments online. Now I look like an idiot because of it. And I didn't need help looking like one because I do a fine enough job myself, thank you very much.

Tons of news sites do this.

  1. Release a crazy article based on shifty information
  2. It goes viral and gets you tons of attention
  3. Weeks later after everyone stops caring, quietly issue a correction

It's a pretty common thing these days

"Trump did not tell the investigator to 'find the fraud' or say she would be 'a national hero' if she did so. Instead, Trump urged the investigator to scrutinize ballots in Fulton County, Ga., asserting she would find 'dishonesty' there. He also told her that she had 'the most important job in the country right now.'"

This is barely different anyway. It's the same context.

Gotta love it. WaPo literally lies and makes up quotes and progressive shills come out and say shit like "It's kinda similar to what actually happened so who cares?". Those boots must taste good man because you lick that shit clean even when they admit lying directly to you.

So there was no substantial difference? I guess you could say that the actual wording is slightly less straight forward if you want to be pedantic?

I dunno if the WaPo were clear that the quoting was attributed to sources rather than something they'd heard. If they were, that's fine. If not, that's kind of shitty journalism. But that doesn't affect the conclusion.

As opposed to the president doing it.

I mean, the context of the story is exactly the same. Just because Trump didn't explicitly tell the Georgia person to "find the fraud" doesn't mean he was explicitly telling them they needed to find fraud, especially after Trump actively says "look in this one county that happens to full of people who voted for Biden and I'm sure you'll find fraud... wink wink"

But the story is exactly the same. So what's the problem here?

It's also extremely damaging. But as long as it only affects conservatives, it's welcome.
