I was a bit disheartened to see that it was just a generic dungeon crawler (or forest crawler as it were) and worse that navigating the forest was very tedious compared to a more linear experience.

But I just got to the village and met the girl from the opening, who I'm assuming is gonna be my piercer. So yeah the plot is slowly chugging along.

It takes Ys games a bit to move along, especially older ones. And Celceta story is just ok for the most part, but it was a necessary step in becoming what 8 and 9 are

I already played all the previous games, celceta is the last one I need to play before I finally start 8 and buy 9. I made the mistake of playing Ys 7 before celceta, and 7 was just a blast.

So it kind of feels like a step down since 7 featured the most story yet in a Ys game, I was surprised by how jrpg-like the story was compared to the minimal story in 0-3.

Any tips to keep in mind? I've already noticed that there are some giant enemies I'm not "supposed" to fight now, since they're level 15 and Adol is like level 5?

And any tips for navigating because it legit felt like I fumbled my way to the next story segment.

I don't remember anything that stands out. You'll get used to how the map works as you go

As for 7 I still havent beaten it. Imo it's the worst of the modern Ys games, but to each their own

Yeah, you get used to the navigation after a while. A lot of areas did have 1 enemy that was stronger than everything else. You can either whittle them down, while trying to keep the AI alive (they suck at dodging), or just avoid them until later.

I enjoyed Celceta, but I played it after playing 8, so I had to temper my expectations there lol.

They can't die if you're not controlling them can they?

I don't think so from what I've played so far, discount-dogi had like 8 health left and he was still alive and only after I accidentally pressed circle and switched to him did he die immediately from a random hit.

That's another thing, I accepted it in Ys 7 but I'm not crazy about the whole party member thing where each is a slash, strike or pierce attribute. I simply tolerate it.

Also all too often I accidentally press circle and switch to another member when I try to do a move lol. But yeah I kinda prefer just Adol myself, I give him the best equipment first and foremost.

I guess it's good I've been playing the Ys games in numerical order and played YsIV: MoC before Ys 7-9 from what I'm hearing in here.

Overall I enjoyed the game quite a bit. I will say that if you really get into exploring the world alot and get good with the flash move and the defense variation of that, you kinda just start wrecking shit and tear through bosses like tissue paper, atleast on normal mode.

I would have played Ys 4 before 7, but then they released it on ps4 so I decided to play 7 first as it was on psp and I wanted to get my last handheld game out of the way.
