Not even necessarily the Mafia, but there are high class criminals like in Mafia and James Bond films, and there are also petty crooks. Time and era has little to do with that.

Same reason people don't wear cloaks and tunics anymore, fashion standards change. Looking back at some of the older fashions is fun and I like how heavier and rustic older fabrics are, a jacket from the turn of the last century is a lot more sturdier than any modern men's jacket.

Nah. The pandemic and just kinda feeling lazy ended that for now. I still do get jackets made, I had two double breasted cashmere jackets made since the beginning of this year. Sad that I haven't worn either for now.

Suits are awesome. I wear them whenever I can. Except ties. Ties can go to hell.

That's a shame, it seemed like everyday you'd rock a different suit back in my RI days.

Fedoras well were on their way out by the start of the century. If you look at archives from way back in the days, I'm talking about the early 1900s, you find the older generation complaining about the hatless youth. Of course millinery was much more prevalent back than but the hat making business was huge in the 19th century. Hat making was one of the bigger factors in driving the fur trade. Companies like Stetson and other hat makers were widely know and you had smaller hatmakers as well. I own a pristine longhaired white fedora from, basing this on my knowledge of hats, somewhere in the 1920s or before. What's cool about this hat is that it has information on the band and inside the band, it was 1.00$ from a hatmaker that went by Jessie the Hatter. Business like this would have been around locally.

But as the 20th century went on hat wearing went into a sharp decline, first socially and also as practical wear as cars became more common. You can notice this in period movies as before the 1950s hats were everywhere but as you go past it hats become more rare and are associated with fogey types. It also goes hand in hand with the decline in the wearing of the lounge suit. Suit wear declined as the suit became more formal as the 20th century went on. During the early 20th century you had more sporty and casual styles of suits with details such as a belted back, action backs and pleated backs. Details that went into decline around the 1930s but saw a revival during the 70s with the famous silhouette of Tommy Nutter and Edward Sexton. Today even such oddities as those sporty retro details would be seen as formal in today's society.
