Killmonger (Michael B. Jordan) as Superman and Idris Elbda as Zod? plz God. Would endlessly rustle Fox News and the intersectional approach would be fucking INCREDIBLE in a DC extended universe.

I loved The Last Jedi and am thinking this next DC movie they work on together will be similar to that.

That's understandable but I'm super excited. Snyder was already weaving some Christian ideas into his stuff. The juxtaposition of all that with the technology was interesting to me.

Imagine what Ta-Nehisi Coates (with JJ Abram's style) could pull off. Maybe literally make Superman say the same stuff MLK or post-Mecca Malcom X said. Would be fucking incredible.

I loved Man of Steel (not a Snyder truther, I can criticize it) and if they retain anything from that style, hopefully at least the sci-fi / tech approach to the universe.

Yeah, I enjoyed the Krypton scenes and wouldn't have minded an entire film in that universe/setting if it was good.

Man of Steel's biggest issues for me were that it was about 30-45 minutes too long (given the character development). Zod could've been more of a badass. If Man of Steel had Infinity War's pacing, it might have been considered really good by more people.

but Korok, we need more black superheroes!. Indeed we do. Thats why cyborg was invented. Thats why black panther was invented. Thats why we should have more heroes of color join the DCU and MCU and give them starring roles as important as Superman and Ironman and make them household names. But changing established heroes with an established look and story is plain stupid, it doesnt matter if youre going from POC to white or from white to POC.

That's because minorities have barely just gotten any representation at all in media. There are Black CEmen here who grew up as kids, same as up, playing the same games and shit.

And only recently did they have a Killmonger or Black Panther or badasses like that in the biggest and most awesome brands. Changing historically Black characters would take away from representation.

Maybe in the future after all are represented and can have wonderful childhoods with games and movies that show people that look like all of us, we can explore different backstories for all characters/universes.

We must love and honor one another. We are all luminous beings made by God / universe / whatever you wanna call it.

I get where you're coming from, but once you understand the power of the intersectional approach to art and ideas, it's unstoppable and beautiful. Doing it for the sake of doing it AND doing it extremely well with any of the many talented actors...would speak up against an oppressive machine that not only oppresses Black people, but basically anyone who isn't like $1billion in net worth.

How else can you put that idea into the public consciousness these days? The Christians have been co-opted by Kenneth Copeland so they no longer talk about the love for money being the root of all evil. We can change that still, but for the time being it's really just the intersectional feminists and race theorists who are putting the spotlight on exploitation at all.

It's similar to how those bullshit articles about "woman actor wants to get paid as much as Tom Cruise" are clearly propaganda. The truth behind those matters isn't really that it's about the women's gender gap. That's how the propagandists word the debate.

What those cases really represent is when a worker wants to get paid for the same effort and work they put into something. But of course the Big Oil fossil fuel garglers over at Fox News won't be able to say that, because they benefit from that fucking exploitation if they do.

So they make it about "lululululul gender pay gap"

If your concern is what's best for Black images on screen / Black audiences, it would be better to highlight a superhero who was conceived as being Black than it is to give them a hand-me-down hero to borrow.

Clark Kent has been White for nearly 80 years. As soon as this reboot series is over, Superman will go back to being White. That's not establishing a permanent Black superhero the same way that a Cyborg or Static movie would.

It's like letting your friend borrow your jacket rather than seeing to it that they get one of their own.

wow that's deep. I can respect that, that is one of the thinks I do appreciate about the DC movies thus far that the Marvel films do not, but the Marvel formula is unique and special in its own way.

I mean, film snobs have no choice but to accept Marvel as a special part of history and our lives, because we have only 1 life and most have us have basically grown with those movies and because of them for a significant part of our short lives already ;)

Haven't seen Watchmen since the opening weekend. I remember liking it, but a lot of retrospective videos say that it misses the point of the book. Which would not surprise me because it's Zack Snyder we're talking about. I recently re-read it for the 3rd or 4th time and it was slower and more dense than I remembered. No doubt it would have been tougher to retain the full meaning of it in a movie form.

That said, I'm guessing if they go down the black Superman route they WB/DC will encourage the use of either Calvin Ellis or Val Zod instead of making Clark Kent black, if only for better merchandising synergy.

A black Clark gets you that character for however long those movies last, but DC isn't going to make comic Clark black. Superman & Lois's Clark will still be white, if a black Clark shows up in an Injustice game, it will be as a skin, not a primary character. Use one of the other black Superman characters and all those problems go away. You want a Superman team up comic? Easy. You want black Superman to show up in Superman & Lois? Easy. Hell you want to do a Supermen movie staring both whoever they cast for black Superman and Henry Cavill as Clark? Done.

It gives them two popular characters as opposed to one popular character with a more variable look.
