Card counting is possible in a face to face game. It's not illegal but the casino will kick you out or ban you for knowing how to do it. The smart players do it anyway. Just don't make it obvious. If two players have the Ace of Spades that's evidence 2 decks are in play. Generally, blackjack is played with 2 decks. "Casually inquire about the number of decks being used in the game". But always find out. You want to shorten the odds against you. Casinos don't like this. Card counting is not cheating, like some of the famous poker schemes are.
