GI docs, or any subspecalty doc in general, *should be* IM certified and they qualify to act as full fledged IM doctor before completing any fellowship. So whatever is listed online is technically accurate but doesn't reflect his current practice.

Just fyi, gastroenterology is a subspecialty of internal medicine. In the vast majority of circumstances, gastroenterology physicians were first certified in internal medicine.

Speaking from personal experience, online listings are often incorrect. I have literally been listed as a psychiatrist simply because my practice while as a resident was in the same building as psychiatry.

Internal medicine is totally fine, but you just need to make sure that the information online is accurate across multiple sources.

As an internal medicine physician, my recommendation is that if you are healthy, Family Medicine makes for better primary care physicians. Conversely, if you have complicated medical issues, that's where Internal Medicine becomes valuable.

I don't know if I'm healthy. Haven't been to the doctor in years. Should I still go for Internist or try Family Medicine?

Why is the original doctor listed under PCP services then if he's specifically in gastroenterology? Is that just a mistake because now I'm wondering if other doctors will give me trouble

Because online information compiling is often automatic and imprecise. That's why I said you should check multiple sources when you look somebody up.

Argh. Just getting frustrated trying to set up what I thought was a simple appointment. Doesn't help that the doctor's name still keeps popping up during my search for a new one. Also, is it better for males to go for male doctors? Or that doesn't matter

Fuck it. Just messed around with filters so I can get the highest rated, closest to my location. First one on the list is a pretty female doctor so I went with her.
