Back in the good old days, if you got stuck on something in a video game, you look it up on youtube and then watch like a minute video of how to do it in a quick and easy way and that's it. Then you move on with your life.

But nowadays, if you're stuck on something in a video game and look up the solution on youtube, you get this:

-Thumbnail with an exaggerated person's face on it, with a red arrow pointing to literally nothing and a title that is typed out LIKE THIS!?!?!?!?! The shortest video is 20 minutes long.
-click on the video and hit a 15 second unskippable ad if you somehow don't have adblocker
-30 second intro plays with various clips of the guy doing wacky stuff while 8-bit music plays in the background. Sometimes he has some dumb avatar.
-"What's up youtube!? [Channel name] here! And today I'm going to show you how to get past this part in the videogame. But first! This video is sponsored by dollar shave club!"
-1 minute ad of Dollar Shave Club / Nord VPN / RAID: Shadow Legends / whatever while youtuber lies about how it improved their life
-"Don't forget to like, comment, and subscribe! Click the bell for notifications! Follow me on instagram and twitter! Subscribe to my Twitch stream; I stream every other day at 5pm! Check out my facebook page! Become a member of my subreddit and discord! And check out my Patreon page! You can get access to exclusive streams and if you donate $5 or more, I'll put your name at the end of the video! Be sure to SMASH that like button!"
-Guy then proceeds to talk about his personal experiences growing up with the video and how it got him out of a dark time in his life or some shit, all the while jumpcutting cuz heaven-forbid there's dead air between sentences. But somehow it's still long as hell.
-Another ad plays. This time it's 3 minutes but you can actually hit the skip ad button within 5 seconds now.
-10 minutes in, we're finally in the video game part! He then proceeds to shove his face cam feed in the corner, taking up 25% of the screen.
-Guy tries to do the thing multiple times, but keeps failing. Showing a wacky face reaction and then jumpcutting to the next failed attempt.
-Takes him 10 minutes with all the dumb failed attempts he left in the video. All the while, he has to comment on every little fucking thing he sees or does.
-Finally, he does the thing, but barely explains anything about it. Spends more time celebrating that he did it and never explains how he (barely) achieved it.
-"Well I hope that helped. Don't forget to subscribe to see more of my content! And I want to thank my fellow Patreon members such as sephiroth_420, and xXx_360_No_ScOpE_xXx for being my top paid followers this month"
-Patreon names fill the page, then a 1 minute endslate appears that shows a couple of similar videos from the guy, all while 8-bit music plays
-Another ad loads in for some reason, but this time it's 15 seconds and you can't skip it.

People do not know how to get to the FUCKING point anymore and are more concerned with shoving their fat FUCKING face in everything and making a brand of themselves than actually delivering quick and helpful content. It's just like those FUCKING food blogs where they put their life story before every recipe before giving you the directions.

"How do I do [thing] in [game]?" shouldn't be a video anyway. Taking twenty minutes to answer a fifteen second question is always wrong.
If only there was a website or something, where frequently asked questions about games, could be answered in a simple text format, maybe with some maps and images as well...

Wikis and faqs are still more helpful and concise than many videos, regardless of their format.

I've also never encountered it being that bad for any game I've played. The comments and Like/Dislike ratio can tell me beforehand if it's going to be helpful or not. That takes all but a few seconds.

i hate trying to find a walkthrough / guide and its just dunces stumbling through a game for the first time with no clue what they're doing who put "walkthrough" in the fucking title, that shit is not helpful whatsoever

on that note i want to promote the channel bigmacdavis who has made excellent helpful clear and easy to follow 100% walkthroughs for old school shooters such as classic doom, wolfenstein 3d, and half-life

If the time slider thing is broken up into segments, that's a decent sign that the youtuber is putting in some actual effort.
Otherwise, don't bother.

It's really not hard to find one that gets to the point quicker either.

Videos described in the OP have been a thing for over a decade, but I haven't seen it get worse. The ads certainly have, though, but just using Pure Tuber fixes that.

I almost never have a problem with finding a video with no commentary or extra input. I can't really think of a time I didn't immediately find what I was looking for without someone talking in the back.

Why would anyone use a web browser without ad blocker built in ? Fire fox is the obvious choice. On their android version and maybe the PC version they have a dozen add ons you can enable right in the settings. ad block is just one. And since I turned that on I never got ads anymore on youtube. plus it blocks pop ups and such on sites

The helpful short clips still exist. They're just harder to find as YouTube's search results will favour the algorithm friendly videos. So they sit there on page like 10 with 300 views.

Yep, always the way. I had a vid that showed how to clear the two angels in the Ringed City using a naked hypermode character with 403 hp (pre Angel patch too). All told, its entire length was one minute, forty one seconds to fully clear both of the angels and reach the boss bonfire.

I regret not making those two minutes into a 20-minute e-beg fest. Coulda been a contender . . .

In the comment section someone almost always leaves time stamps. Just type the time like 0:23 and it creates a link in the comment.

I always skim through the comments in a help video cause someone always posts it.

Absolutely, I hate that. But it's because of the YouTube algorithms and the ads that they purposely stretch out videos.

What really made me start hating it is that on the console boards here, people will post a topic like "This is why 'Game xyz' sucks" and the opening post is just a link to a 30 minute youtube video of some guy, doing exactly what you described. And it's like, just give me the cliff notes, I don't care about this guy's life story, just tell me, why does the game suck?

Lol guides from youtube. A plain guide with ctrl+F (Gamefaqs) is so much better and takes 5 seconds at most to find. No need to deal with annoying youtubers that the last thing they care about is actually the guide

It's not just youtube either. You can't google a simple question anymore without all the results being 4 billion word blog posts.

It's so bad that Chrome (or somebody) has actually started using it's AI to identify the answer you're actually looking for and highlight it in yellow.
