After water spilled on my laptop this weekend , now it wont turn on.

Ive been letting it dry but now trying to diagnose. I took the battery out, but prior to taking it out it, the red Thinkpad light would turn on, the keyboard would light up , but nothing on the screen. Then after a moment or two the lights would go out.

What part is likely to be causing the failure ? Is my laptop dead for good or worth finding a way to salvage ?

this is the model

You shouldn't have tried to power it up.

Seriously try putting it in a very large zip lock bag with dry rice, people say it's bullshit sometimes but I have used it numerous times on electronics and it has worked. Even a 360 that had a beer fall over on it an pour in, leave it there for a couple days.

Also, wtf kind of laptop has a removable battery these days?

i had to open it up to remove it

what I described with the lights turning on and then off happens even when the charger is plugged in (without the battery in place). So Im assuming theres a part or parts in there that needs to be replaced

Update : I took the back plate off and tested trying to run it without the battery and disconnecting certain things from the motherboard. It seems that the laptop will only boot up if the power button piece is disconnected from the laptop. I was able to successfully boot it up to my normal desktop with the batteries disconnected and that one power button disconnected (with the wall charger being the only thing powering it).

Would this mean I need a new power button , or that the part of the motherboard that the power button connects to is fried ?

I had a case where a laptop wouldnt power on a week after being left in a rice bag. However, it started working a month later. Dont give up hope that it will revive itself

Thanks! My new update is that I was able to get it all up and running after re-attaching the batteries after trying to run it by dettaching certain things from the motherboard. It ended up booting up with everything attached except for the power button/power board dettached. So right now it is working, but I can't turn it on or off with the power button. I ordered a new part for that last night- hopefully it's a case of the part being bad and not the actual connector on the motherboard. I 'm a little unsure of how easy it'll be to turn the laptop on/off from sleep (without a power button), since it sometimes that can be a little screwy, but so far I'm super pleased I haven't lost any data and it seems to be in working order. I've yet to test everything else on it like the blue tooth, speakers, etc but I'm online right now so it's showing good signs :)
