I'm thinking about applying for some weekend work. And also I have summers off and need a summer job.

Anyways, what's like? Pizza delivery in general?

What if they live in an apartment complex on the 2nd floor and you need a code just to drive in?

i applied to be a pizza delivery driver for dominos, but never heard back

im partially glad, because i thought you only deliver pizzas. apparently being a delivery driver at dominos means you do everything else too. make the pizzas, clean, take the front desk, etc.

they will prioritize you being a delivery driver, but on busy days or when they are a short a person, they will put you to work

Dominos style is that they are primarily carry-out and delivery. But with a focus on delivery, most of their staff are comprised of drivers that are cross-trained to do everything in the store and out of the store. Only the busiest of busy stores will have devoted insiders that do the bulk of the work and that's only because the drivers are so busy delivering, there is literally no time for them to do anything else. If you can get in as a driver at such a store. Go for it.

In fact, most pizza places, you do WAY more than drive. Driving is the primary function, but there are down times with no deliveries, and they require you to work. Not just ride the fuckin' clock.

i dont disagree with the business model, it makes perfect sense for pizza places to do that. it just isnt good for me because im lazy. my take is "whats in it for me?" as a security guard theres lots of downtime and i just sit here.

I did a little over a decade ago. As others have said your primary function is to deliver pizza but they will make you stay back on some nights to help clean up the store for the following day and help close down, which means cleaning the pans and making more pizza boxes. I can't speak for all Dominos locations but some nights I would get out of there around 1am.

In regards to delivering to apartment homes, the customer will usually provide the gate code and delivery instructions. That's what the label is for on the front of the pizza box. On really busy days you may take 2-3 deliveries at a time to save on having to go back to the store.

Honestly if you are looking to do some weekend work I would sign up for Door Dash. At least on the app you can see what someone is going to tip prior to accepting the order. The issue with something like Domino's is they are going to pay you next to nothing hourly and you have no idea if you are going to make pennies or $5 for a tip. During my time at dominos they were running a promo for 2 medium pizzas with the total coming to $14.95 and the amount of times I was given $15 and told to "keep the change" was a ridiculous amount of times. Then again, seeing how many people here don't tip at all it's not that surprising in hindsight.

I've got about 5-6 years of delivery experience on and off, a year and a half of it with dominos.

they can put the code on the special instructions, or you call them. Or you follow someone in. Their number is on the ticket.
