The Dems were likely to lose in 2022 anyway. Happens a lot of the time to whichever party wins during the Presidential election.

I mean it was 8 or 9 democrats that voted against minimum wage increase. That just means those states need to vote for less conservative democrats next time.

But I've been told "blue no matter who" and that people's lives would be better under Democrats.

Could... could the liberals be wrong?
People's lives are going be $1400 better.

Also we don't have destructive no tolerance illegal immigration and child kidnapping policies anymore.

Wages are getting lower. I know car mechanics and window installers making $12 per hour. In the 1990s it would've been higher pay.

i feel like this topic crops up every 2-3 days and i really need to just make a copypasta that can respond to it

dems may be able to get 51 senate votes to pass a bill. but do you understand how often they can do that? it's not something they can do for every bill, it's something they can do once per year, via budgetary reconciliation.

their goal, as was done for the last stimulus by the republicans, was to pass a clean bill that both sides supported, so as to not have to use that tool for this. that would have enabled a fast response and it was what dems granted the GOP in 2020. republicans indicated quite clearly that no, they won't support that. both in december, and now.

the GOP are demanding nonsense things like a repeal of section 230 and new language that disallows private websites from policing users' content, which have nothing to do with the covid stimulus. that isn't going to happen.

given the new norm of 'we filibuster...everything' in the senate, reconciliation is now how essentially all legislation of the majority party is passed. it's how the trump tax cuts were passed, which took until dec 2016, because they also set the mandate penalty on obamacare to $0...which had nothing to do with the trump tax cuts.

a political party using reconciliation to pass a bill that is fundamentally, completely bipartisan would be committing political suicide, essentially announcing to their supporters that they will be accomplishing absolutely nothing else that is opposed by the other party for the remainder of the year. it would be a massive, incredible victory for the opposition to force such a failure of policymaking from the majority party.

i'm sure you all can grasp that it takes longer to craft a bill that does many things than a bill that does one thing.

"We" meaning humans in America, maybe, because it's not happening any time soon. We'll be lucky to see it increase at all, especially with Republicans taking back over before long.

This is our damn fault for not establishing wages as flexible a long time ago. It should change every year to reflect the current standard of living, not be a debate every decade or so that hopes to happen during a sympathetic Congress.

inb4someone says "But costs will go up!"

Costs going up is exactly why people want more money! Save the bullshit about $15 McChickens.

i certainly agree that senate dems are more conservative than they should be.

none of this changes the fact that passing anything other than an omnibus bill with reconciliation would be a huge disaster for the democrats.

Not sure why people are confident in $15 minimum wage happening anytime soon when both senators from Delaware voted no go the amendment. Get rid of the damn filibuster already.

Truly wild that the guy who campaigned on getting support from Republican senators can't get his own state's Democrats on board.

I just figured if people want to appease him so badly that they won't support overruling an unelected government employee, they must be wanting to give him anything.
