Honestly, I hate the ending. I'm fine with Light losing, but his loss made basically zero sense. He was built up in part 1 as this flawless logician and in part 2 it works hard to tear that all down. If part 2 had progressed logically Light would not have lost the way he did. A different way, perhaps, but not the way it played out. He started reacting to things stupidly and emotionally for basically no reason, made choices that part 1 Light never would have made. The disconnect between the two is just galling

Deathnote was great to read as a Manga before it was completed and you had the mystery going week to week to discuss. Post L it kind of went down hill though.

Season 2 makes perfect sense, you probably just need it spelled out for you.

Misa Misa is a terrible character and really hurt part 1 too. Honestly there's more bad to Death Note than good.

Light just got too full of himself, he'd been at it for so long that he basically thought he was a literal god that could do no wrong, especially since he defeated L. I'd say his decline is pretty logical.

Then the show needed to spend more time building on that. We went from the ep with L's death where Light was basically an unstoppable murder machine who was planning weeks ahead of his opponent to *Benny Hill Theme intensifies* with no real link between the two. In part 1 Light and L go back and forth, each having the upper hand at times. In part 2 Light is fighting a defensive battle almost the entire time and almost never is able to actually outhink Near. Yeah, at one point her kills Near's entire task force but it barely even slows him down, Light was just outclassed the entire time and its bad writing.

Light's death is done pretty well and tastefully, I wouldn't want it to change much. But everything before that (after L) is pretty meh, cant remember any of it.

I liked part two - like, I liked seeing Light's dream finally realized and having it all tumble down.

plus, I liked Mello the most out of the four, and it was amusing seeing Near constantly troll Light.

I rewatched the series for the first time since I was a teenager. It doesn't hold up tbh. Not even the first part.

It's pretty good, up to part 2. Having L dye just to be replaced by another L Jr was dumb. I heard the original idea was to have Ls son catch Light, but idk how true that is.

However, I wouldn't call Lights choices dumb writing. It just shows how arrogant he got which led to his down fall. Part 2 has many issues but I wouldn't say Lights choices in part 2 were part of the issues.
